2009 Minehead Somerset
In June 2009 the Colts visited Butlins holiday camp in Minehead for a weekend of fun and a bit of football as they took part in the Rhode Lane Wanderers tournament in Bridgewater. The tour was the third for the Colts but unfortunately the first damp one as our stay coincided with a wet June weekend. Notwithstanding this it didn’t rain all of the time and when it did there was plenty of entertainment in Butlins to keep the lads entertained.
Thankfully there was no rain in nearby Bridgewater and the lads took part in a friendly tournament playing many of the local clubs from North Somerset. Two mixed teams took part and two sets of mixed results occurred. The Colts did well and won their group with 16 points from their 8 games whereas the Falcons found scoring difficult and ending up drawing 5 of their 8 games. However despite differing results they both found themselves in the finals; the Colts in the main final and the Falcons in the Plate final. The host club beat the Colts 1-0 in the final in a very tight game whereas the Falcons defeated Staplegrove on penalties to take home the Plate award.
After that it was back to Butlins for fun and frolics and once again a great tour will live on in the memories of the lads.
