2008/9 Under 13's

Arguably the Under 12’s season was the best to date in the Colt’s short history. It was certainly the most successful as the Colts secured their first ever championship when they won the Division 2 title following a tremendously exciting race with Woodford United & Woodloes when all three teams finished equally on 46 points. The Colts won the final play off match against Woodford on a sunny May evening by a 2-1 score line in a game that was much more one sided than the result suggests. Harry & Johnny were the goal scorers on this great evening but all of the players put in a great performance on the night.

Woodford were the only team to beat the Colts in the League that season and there were some crucial performances along the way. In December the Colts travelled to leaders Woodloes and were the first to take points off them in an exciting 3-3 draw a result bettered in April when they won the home fixture by the convincing score of 5-2. Another big highlight of the year was the 9-1 thrashing of Banbury Irish which included a record 6 goals by top scorer Johnny who finished the season with 49 goals. The goal in the play off game was to be Johnny’s last for the Colts as he was to depart at the end of the season. Having played for the Colts for just over two seasons he certainly left his mark on the record books. Also to depart this year was Clark who decided to concentrate more on his squash and Lewis who had an impressive solitary season with the Colts playing in most positions in his brief stay.

Another highlight of the season was the Colts managing to get a full spread article in the Sunday People, not once but twice. The JSP supplement was launched in the Midlands region and the Colts caught the imagination of the national newspaper with our culture and style and they sent a photographer to the ground on the one day of the season when the match was postponed due to a snowy pitch; plenty of snowy fun in next weeks national! Just a few weeks later they were back again as they searched for a match in the region and the Colts was one of the surviving matches and what a match it was, Banbury Irish and that 9-1 victory.

The season culminated with a series of tournament success. The Colts had a great tournament season and in the seven tournaments they entered they reached the final five times and the semi-final in the other two. Alas they were only able to turn one of those finals into a victory, at Leamington Brakes for the second season in a row but there was plenty of silverware to go around this season.

Frankie deservedly took the Player of the Year award for a strong season that saw him finish as second highest scorer on 28 goals and Blake too had a great and consistent season taking the Managers Award. Jacob took the Most Improved Player for the second season in a row and James & Tyler shared the Clubman of the Year.

For all of the success on the field it was probably the off the field developments that had the greatest impact for the team. The Colts moved to Leek Wootton in September 2008 and the hosts made us feel so welcome that by the end of the year the lads voted to change clubs and Leek Wootton FC was born in the summer of 2009.

At Under 13’s, it will be a new strip and a new badge, but it’s still the same lads, by and large and for them an exciting future awaits.
