Crick visit Leek Wootton

This Sunday the Colts entertain Crick Colts as the lads get back to League action after a short break for half term. This is the return fixture from the opening weekend of the season when the Colts won 7-2 with a hat trick from Johnny amongst the highlights. Last time out Crick secured their first points of the season when they defeated Southam United Dynamoes 5-2 and they currently lie in 6th place in the division.
We have only met Crick three times previously and have won all of the games. As well as the victory this season the Colts won the two fixtures at the Under 9’s age group with a 5-2 home win and a 4-2 victory at Crick and the lads will be hoping to add to that record this Sunday.
Buildbase continue to support the Colts

The Colts are delighted to announce that Buildbase have continued to support the Colts with another sponsorship arrangement for the season. This is the third year that Buildbase have supported the team and in today’s tough economic climate, particularly in the sector that Buildbase operate in, this is particularly good news.
A big thank you once again to Buildbase, we hope that the lads will perform well on the pitch as a sign of appreciation.
November fixtures released

The League have announced the fixtures for November and there are five games for the Colts during the month.
On the 2nd the Colts entertain Crick Colts who we played on the opening game of the season which the Colts won 7-2. Last weekend Crick opened up their League account with a win over Southam United Dynamoes and will no doubt be after some sort of revenge as they try to add to their points tally.
The following two Sunday’s there are two tough games with back-to-back fixtures with Woodford United who currently lie in 2nd place in the division. Over the four games that we have played the Northamptonshire club we have a perfect 100% record but this year is likely to be the toughest yet as they have made a strong start to the season.
On the 23rd we are again at home when we entertain Banbury Irish, another club who we have a perfect record against. Last year we had a tight 2-0 victory at home but a somewhat healthier 8-2 victory on our travels. Currently Irish are still looking for their first win of the season but they have picked up a couple of useful draws.
We close the month on Sunday 30th with a trip to old rivals Norton Lindsey who we have mixed record with although we did win both games against them last year 4-3 at home and the impressive 7-3 victory at their ground when they were topping the division. This year they have found life a little tougher and currently have just two draws to their account but this will surely change by the time we meet them.

The Colts tried out their new home on Sunday against old friends Stretton Athletic and just about did enough to secure the points and maintain their 100% League record with a 3-1 victory.
The Colts played with the slope in the first half and were straight into the attack forcing the visitors onto the back foot but a few early chances went begging before Johnny slotted home with a shot from the edge of the box for the Colt’s first goal at Leek Wootton. It was no more than they deserved and they continued on the attack and soon extended their lead when Frankie created some space with some fancy footwork and hit the back of the net with a crisp shot. Jacob then put through a fantastic ball for Kris to run onto and he scored from distance with a quality strike for his first ever League goal. As the half came to a close the Colts continued to dominate and Connor also found the back of the net when he got on to the end of a cross from Frankie but unfortunately it was chalked off for offside.
After the break it was the Colt’s defensive game that came under the spotlight as Stretton pushed hard but the defence was generally looking firm with Lewis looking safe in goal. The Colts playing with just Johnny up front still had the occasional attack and the Stretton keeper made a few decent saves to keep his side in touch. As the match moved into the last quarter however Stretton managed to narrow the gap when they took advantage of a poor clearance but in general the Colts defence looked secure with James in particular having a good game at the back and Frankie, Blake and Paul also winning many of the loose balls in the midfield which stopped the supply to the Stretton forwards. In the last five minutes the Colts twice went close to extending their lead as the Stretton keeper saved at Johnny’s feet when he was clean through and then Blake hit a post with a header but in the end it was their first half efforts that won the day and the lads perfect League start continued with their third win from as many games.
Johnny was awarded the man of the match award for his hard work up front but all the lads can feel proud for a job well done. Post match it was in the Club house for a bit of a social, a game of bingo and the odd chip butty – just what Sunday’s were made for!
Home at last

At long last after weeks of away games the Colts finally get their studs on their new ground when we entertain Stretton Athletic at Leek Wootton. Both teams go into the game in good form with Stretton coming from behind to win last week against Lillington 2-1 and the Colts returned from Southam with a handsome 6-0 victory in their pockets.
Games with Stretton have traditionally been close affairs with both sides picking up victories along the way. In the ten games between the teams to date the Colts have slightly the better record with five wins to three for Stretton with two games ending all square. Last season the Colts won both league encounters comfortably 5-2 at home but then there was a very tight 2-0 victory at Stretton in March when a goal in the first and last minutes won the points but in-between the match was very tight indeed.
This year Stretton have had a good start to the season and currently lie in 3rd place, one position above the Colts although they have played more games. They opened with a narrow defeat against table toppers Woodloes and then were involved in a remarkable 6-6 draw with Norton Lindsey before two victories against Wellesbourne and Lillington have propelled them up the division. With two victories from their last two games Stretton will come to Leek Wootton full of confidence and the Colts are bound to be well pushed as they try and maintain their unbeaten record.
Johnny equals goalscoring record as Colts hit Southam for six

Johnny seems to like playing his neighbours from Southam as once again he hit five goals to equal the Colts match goal scoring record he set against the same opponents last season.
It was a glorious sunny day for football and the Colts looking for their second win of the season took control from the kick off causing the home team plenty of problems at the back. Johnny was a constant thorn in their side as he twisted and turned his way through their defense with regular ease. His first goal came from an acute angle and their were good finishes throughout his first half tally of four. It wasn’t a one man show however, Callum, who was eventually to win the man of the match award was continuously causeing problems down the Colts left with Ollie equally looking dangerous down the right as Johnny was fed with plenty of quality ball.
With the result safely in the bag Paul made a few additional changes but there was still opportunity for two more goals in the second half as Johnny added a fifth after a goalmouth scramble and then Blake struck home from the edge of the box to complete a comfortable win to maintain the Colt’s unbeaten league record.
League Action returns

Following last week’s sojourn into cup football the Colts return to league action this Sunday with a visit to Southam United Dynamoes. The Colts have a good record against the Dynamoes winning both games last year 6-0 away and the record score of 12-1 at home on a very wet Sunday in April.
In their first season last term the Dynamoes found the going tough but they have already improved on their debut season record with a win in their opening fixture this season with a 4-1 victory over Wellesbourne Wanderers Juniors. Their other two league games were narrow defeats and they currently lie mid-table with 3 points just below the Colts on goal difference.
Having improved from last year the Colts are bound to be in for a tough game this Sunday and will no doubt need to be at their best to get their season back on track following a three week gap from their opening game against Crick.
Ajax edge out Colts in nine goal thriller

With the return of the wet winter weather came the return of cup football for the first time this season as the Colts visited Division 1 side Central Ajax in an exciting match where they were unfortunately edged out by the odd goal in nine.
The home side started the brightest and took the lead early on with a scrappy goal that trickled into the corner which could and should have been cleared once or twice before the final soft shot. Soon after the home side doubled their lead with a quality goal from their right midfielder who cut in and let fly with a shot that gave Lewis no chance. To their credit the Colts regrouped and started to get into the game and had a few chances as they got on top for the last ten minutes of the half. They deservedly got on the score sheet as Ollie burst down the right and crossed for Johnny to finish at the far post.
At 2-1 at the interval the game was definitely on however a few mistakes at the back let in the dangerous Ajax front line and they took their opportunities as they once again took control of the game and ran up a 4-1 lead midway through the half.
With the game apparently out of reach Paul threw his “last dice” and switched Lewis from goal to join Johnny up front and it definitely gave the Colts some impetus as they really put the home side on the back foot for the last quarter. Kris was causing mischief down the left with his mazy runs and from one of them his goal bound shot was guaranteed a safe berth in the back of the net by Ollie to make the score 4-2 but just as soon as they seemed to be getting back in the game the home side scored once more to restore their three goal lead.
With five minutes remaining Johnny turned sharply and finished well to get the Colts back into contention and with time ebbing away a cross from Ollie was met at the far post by Lewis to make the score 5-4. The crowd were buzzing with anticipation of a nail biting finale but unfortunately the time had all but gone and the home side made it through to the next round but the Colts can take great credit from their fight back and had Lewis’s goal came just a few minutes earlier then who knows what would have happened as the Colts were definitely the form team at the end.
Good luck to Ajax in the next round and its back to League action for the Colts as they travel to Southam next week in search of three more points.
Cup Football makes its first appearance of the season

With the Colts having only played one competitive match this season its straight into the excitement of knockout football as the League Cup makes its first appearance of the campaign. One of the best matches last year was our cup match with Henley Forest which ended all square at 4-4 before the lads unfortunately lost on penalties. Let’s hope this weekend is just as exciting but with a different result.
This season the Colts once again have an away tie and this time against our old friends Central Ajax who we have never played in cup football before. The Colts don’t have a good record against the Warwick club with the 1-1 draw at Under 9 level being the only performance of note. Last year as the team were rebuilding Ajax came to the Wardens and swept the Colts aside with a convincing 8-1 victory however in February when the team had had time to bed down it was a much tighter game which was level until the last quarter when three late goals eventually gave Ajax a 5-2 victory.
Following their promotion as champions this season Ajax have found the going a little tougher and they have gone down to two defeats; however the fixture list wasn’t kind to them and they had Alveston and Tazmanian Cruiser Juniors as their two opening fixtures, things will surely get better. Although Central Ajax will start as favourites the improvements the Colts have made of late should make it an exciting game. Kick off at Ajax Park is at 2:30 p.m.
Of the other games in the preliminary round two catch the eye; champions Alveston play host to Fenny Compton who were one of the teams to beat them last season and Balsall & Berkswell Colts entertain cup holders Wellesbourne Wanderers.
