Meet the Coaches

Leek Wootton coaching team comprises of Club Manager Paul Baigent, Head Coach Phil Alcock and Rob Sawyer. All three managers are FA qualified coaches and have many years experience of coaching both junior and senior teams.

The coaches can also benefit from long playing careers, albeit a few years ago; Paul played most of his football in the senior amateur leagues in the South of England whereas Phil played at a similar level in the North East – you’ll soon be able to tell that when you hear him coach but hopefully the youngsters will quickly become attuned to his accent! Whilst Rob did play football he was also a keen rugby player and played for many years in the local rugby clubs. The youngest of the coaches is Charlie who is only 16 and is gaining his first experience of coaching. Charlie plays regularly for Leamington Hibs under 16’s and is the older brother of Andy who plays for Leek Wootton’s under 15 team. All four have a love for sport and football in particular.

All of the clubs coaches have a similar philosophy of push & pass football with great emphasis in the early years on skill development but of course most important of all is enjoyment and throughout Leek Wootton there is a very positive attitude on fun and development in the game rather than being a result orientated club. Our view is to develop the skills, teach the tactics, create a happy atmosphere and the results will come to the team. Although this coaching programme is focussed on a very young age group the clubs ethos of game and skill development in a fun environment will run through the sessions.
